Sounds Of The Smokies

First Morning of Autumn in The Great Smoky Mountains

Emert’s Cove Covered Bridge

The Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon River, locally known as Greenbrier, is one of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park’s most beautiful streams. The Emerts Cove Covered Bridge crosses the river just outside The National Park near Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Along with the peaceful sound of the water flowing by on the first morning of Autumn, if you listen closely, you’ll also hear crows, crickets, songbirds and a farm vehicle or two driving past. If you watch the video, you might see morning mist rising from the water, a trout jumping, tree branches moving gently in a breeze, leaves falling into the water and floating downstream, an SUV and a pick-up truck easing their way across the single lane covered bridge, small rings on the water and even someone out for a morning walk.

Listening to the sounds of Nature has the potential to help you let go of negative thoughts, reduce your stress and anxiety, improve your mood, eliminate toxic energy, increase your peace of mind, cleanse unwanted feelings and emotions, help you concentrate and study, lift your spirits, allow your mind to relax, help with meditation and give you a closer connection with Nature.

A recent meta-analysis analyzing the health effects of natural soundscapes found  correlations between listening to natural sounds and positive health benefits, such as decreased pain, stress reduction, and enhanced cognitive performance. [Buxton, R. T., et al., (2021)]

We hope that listening to the Sounds of the Smokies provides an opportunity to improve your overall wellness, feel a closer connection to Nature, or simply enjoy a peaceful getaway, if only for a brief moment.
